The West Coast Story
I’ve had this mystical memory etched in my mind ever since climbing Lone Cone Mountain on Meares Island in Clayoquot Sound with a few friends back in 2012. We summited the peak after a sweaty couple hours climbing the thousand vertical meters of elevation. As the sun set over the hazy Pacific Ocean and the full moon rose, we split a bag of Cubensis mushrooms and sat back and let the journey unfold. It was one of the most profound and meaningful trips of my life and I greeted the sunrise reborn with a much deeper connection to the Island that birthed me. For most of my life I’ve felt uneasy about sharing my interest and experiences in psilocybin and other psychedelics due to social pressures and stigmas. It’s a topic that’s so deeply connected to our psyche and existence, yet so mysterious. Of all the living organisms on Earth, I’ve always resonated the most with the Fungi kingdom. They’ve allowed me to glimpse into deeper realms, connect with the oneness of the Universe, and heal the trauma passed down from my ancestors. Like a long lost friend, a mother, and a teacher, they’ve given me so much wisdom and insight into who I am - and I’m grateful the world is waking up to their power. The main inspiration behind this piece was to create an album cover depicting my bandmate and I for my upcoming album “Campfire Medicine”. With this goal in mind I brushed the elements of music and fire into this memory - a reminder to keep carrying the light through 2020.
